A single-story house wrapped around a reflecting pool, with a glass pavilion that closes in winter and opens to the garden all summer.
The vision
A retired couple moving back from Chicago wanted one level, one room that could hold twenty people, and no thresholds between inside and garden.
The execution
Cast-in-place concrete walls form the courtyard and carry the roof; a cedar screen filters the western sun. The pavilion doors ride on a recessed track so the floor reads as one continuous plane from kitchen to water.
