Cedar Hollow Residence

The vision

Two working parents, three children, and a lot that slopes eight feet from front to back. The brief was for a house that could absorb a loud family and still feel calm at seven in the morning.

The execution

Board-formed concrete walls hold the hillside; a cedar-clad volume floats above them. Every window reveal was built as a deep seat, which meant setting the structural openings six inches wider than the glazing schedule called for.
